Dr. Simon Takes Issue With The New York Times, Lay Press in Reporting on 'Medical Journalism' PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 19 March 2010
The article stated: "In their December 12, 2009 article "Menopause, as Brought to You by Big Pharma," reporters Natasha Singer and Duff Wilson misinform readers about Menopause and hormone therapy, asserting that in the 1990s millions of women were misled about the benefits of menopausal hormone therapy by pharmaceutical companies, advertisers, and "respected medical journals."

"The report relies heavily on content that has been taken out of context, which just fuels the fire of misunderstanding and fear about the subject of menopause. It goes even further by undermining a clear understanding of the scientific facts."

Dr. Simon also noted that ....on the basis of his “medical experience, having spent most of my adult life studying and writing about menopause and women's health, and in daily interaction with patients with menopausal symptoms for more than 30 years, it is my responsibility to address the misinformation presented in that article. I must provide accurate and current information and do my best to educate our readers about the clinical implications of the data and their impact on menopause management."
